Commander Receives Artificial Limbs for War Heroes from People's Church

PEOPLE’S Church at Narahenpita, to coincide with the ongoing War Hero week (May 12 - 20), precursor to Thursday’s National Victory Day, was among the latest to pay its gratitude to the invaluable services of troops by donating a stock of artificial legs and limbs for the use of disable War Heroes.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, gracing the occasion as Chief Guest along with Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), received 36 artificial legs and limbs and gift parcels for War Heroes, worth over Rs 2.4 million from Rev Deeshan Wickremaratne, Senior Pastor, People’s Church during a special ceremony held at the People’s Church premises Monday (17) morning.

The ceremony, co-ordinated by SVAB membership on the instructions of Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, (SVAB) was attended by a large gathering of church members, Sri Lankan cricketers, SVAB members, War Heroes and other invitees.

31 disable War Heroes, belonging to Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, brought to the occasion, on invitation by organizers, were felicitated and showered with gift parcels as a token of appreciation of their service to the Nation.

Rev Keltan Wickramaratne conducted a special service on the occasion and invoked blessings on all War Heroes and the country, as a special feature of the day’s proceedings. During the ceremony, ‘Mage Vickramanvitha Edahille Gamana,’ a special book that speaks of legendary heroic feats was also gifted to the War Heroes present and among the attendees.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya, appreciative of the good gesture that added strength to all disable War Heroes extended his gratitude afterwards to the People’s Church hierarchy and organizers over their considerateness and generosity.

Former Commander of the Army Lieutenant General (Retd) Sri Lal Weerasuriya, Senior SVAB members and several senior officers were associated with the ceremony.
