General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, reminding the troops of different services that have been executed within the organization during his tenure as the Army Chief, requested everyone to give the same support, if not more support to his successor in the future since the standards of this organization have to be maintained at all levels.
General Jayasuriya Friday (5) afternoon called at the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) and spoke to a cross section of SFHQ-West troops at Panagoda Army Cantonment where he said that the Sri Lanka Army’s standards were brought to a greater level than ever before in his capacity as the Commander of the Army.
He further spelt out that extensive support, lent to him by the troops enabled him to be the youngest four-star General in the Army, paving way for others to follow suit in the future. He recalled with thanks how the troops, belonging to many different regiments, braved to face the enemy without any fear as the humanitarian operations were rolling. ‘That bravery and heroism took the Army a long way and elevated it to a higher level, admired by all across the world which itself is an achievement,’ the Commander opined.
During his speech, General Jayasuriya further catalogued the series of welfare measures that have been introduced to the organization and how facilities for officers and other ranks were enhanced. ‘Abimansala’ projects, unique and unparalleled, perhaps in the whole world are dedicated to provide life-long care to our heroic dependent War Heroes. “You all contributed to these projects and therefore can share the satisfaction you deserve for helping your fellow-workmates. Similarly, the Seva Vanitha has been performing a commendable role for the benefit of you, all,” the Commander pointed out.
Thanking everyone for their cooperation during the past four years, the Commander wanted all the troops to work for the betterment of the organization with the new Commander, taking office shortly.
Major General S.R Manawaduge, Security Force Commander - West received the Commander of the Army upon arrival at the SFHQ-West. Senior officers and other ranks were present to listen to the Commander.
