Commander Makes Offerings to Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya

Giving prioritized place to the veneration of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi at Anuradhapura, the new Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva made offerings to the sacred Bodhiya and received blessings amid chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ on Sunday (25).

On arrival at the sacred premises, Lieutenant General Silva, together with his spouse, Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President Army Seva Vanitha Unit at first called on the Atamasthanadhipathi and the Chief Incumbent, Ven Dr Pallegama Sirinivasabhidhana Nayake Thero, Chief Sanghanayake for Nuwara Kalaviya.

Ven Dr Pallegama Sirinivasabhidhana Nayake Thero extending his best wishes on the new appointment of the Commander of the Army requested Lieutenant General Silva to prioritize the security of the nation and continue his duties with utmost commitment.

Lieutenant General Silva assured the Chief Incumbent of his 24-hour long dedication for the security of the country and his preparedness for any eventuality for the sake of all the people in the country.

After offering trays of Jasmine flowers to the sacred Bodhiya amid chanting of the Maha Sangha, he was invited to inaugurate the free rice and curry eatery (Dansela) near the sacred premises. The Commander served meals to the devotees symbolically soon after its opening and had a chat with some of them.
