Commander Makes Offerings to 'Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya' &;amp; Other Sacred Places


The new Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, giving pride of place to religious observances soon after he assume duties, went to Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya and other sacred places on Sunday (4) evening and paid his respect.

Lieutenant General Ratnayake, accompanied by Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch and three children at first called on Ven Pallegama Sirinivasabhidhana Nayaka Thero, Atamastanadhipathi (Chief Incumbent for all eight sacred places) before offerings were made to the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.

Lieutenant General Ratnayake afterwards made offerings to the sacred Bodhiya and received blessings. Members of the Maha Sangha, including Ven Pallegama Hemaratana Nayaka Thero, Incumbent, Ruwanweli Seya and a few more monks were present at the Udamaluwa (Upper Layer).

Thereafter the Commander and his retinue visited Mirisawetiya, Lankaramaya, Ruwanweliseya and Jayanthi Viharaya in Anuradhapura. During those visits the Commander made offerings and received the blessings of the Maha Sangha and incumbent of those respective sacred places.
