Commander Makes His First Formal Visit to SLMA after Assuming Duties

Sri Lanka Army’s premier seat of learning, Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) at Diyatalawa on Thursday (21), accorded a warm welcome to Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army who made his first visit there after assumption of office as Commander of the Army.

The event was a reflection of good olden days, taking the Commander of the Army down the memory lane as he began his itinerary on the day, firstly paying tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the SLMA memorial. A Guard Turnout preceded and saluted the visiting Commander at the entrance to the SLMA premises. Likewise a Guard of Honour, presented by SLMA cadets followed his visit to the SLMA library where the Commander pursued his studies with supportive references many years back.

The next assignment of the Commander inside the auditorium was one of the significant moments in his life as he was invited to unveil photos of the former Commander, Lieutenant General S.H.S. Kottegoda, incumbent Chief of Defence Staff, General Jagath Jayasuriya and the Commander’s own while simultaneously unveiling several photos of both the Commander and the Chief of Staff taken during their SLMA cadetship time, too.

Minutes after the SLMA Commandant and Deputy Commandant presented a briefing to the visiting Army Chief, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake addressed the officers, assembled at the SLMA auditorium. Later on, before the Commander spoke to the other ranks, he took time off to inspect the work site of the new SLMA office complex under construction and inquired into various aspects.
