Commander Joins NIIBS Opening, Alms-Giving & Offer of ‘Pirikara’

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army on the invitation of Ven Dr. Bodagama Chandima Nayaka Thero, Vice Chancellor of Nagananda International Institute for Buddhist Studies (NIIBS) and Chief Sangha Nayaka for Taiwan, on Saturday (18 November) attended the inaugural ceremony for offer of ‘Parishkara’ (essentials) and alms to a gathering of island-wide 5000 Buddhist nuns at NIIBS premises in Manelwatta, Bollegala.

Before the commencement of the major segment of the day’s project, Ven Dr. Bodagama Chandima Nayaka Thero, together with Ven. Uduwe Dhammaloka Thero invited the Commander of the Army to join the warming ceremony of the new four-storied accommodation building for residential student monks. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army cut the symbolic ribbon and warmed the new infrastructure facility in the compound.

Troops of 7 Engineer Services Regiment of the Army on the directions of the Commander of the Army offering their technical and engineering expertise erected the new four-storied building.

Afterwards, the Commander of the Army joined the alms-giving and offer of ‘Pirikara’ to those nuns who had come from all corners of the island.
