Commander Joins Mourners & Pays Respect to Late Maha Nayake Thero

Members of the Maha Sangha of all Three Nikayas, HE the President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Opposition Leader, Hon Sajith Premadasa, Governor for Central Province, Ministers, State Ministers, Secretary Defence, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Navy and Air Force Commanders, acting Inspector General of the Police and a huge gathering of foreign delegates, laymen and mourners attended the state funeral of late Most Venerable Napane Pemasiri Maha Nayake Thero of the Rammanna Maha Nikaya at Kundasale on Sunday (22) after they paid last respect to the remains.

Most Venerable prelate, a highly respected Buddhist monk whose legacy has produced a number of student monks and Dhamma followers was 98 years of age at the time of his demise. The funeral with state patronage and gun salutes took place after the remains were taken in procession, adhering to health guidelines. The remains of late Maha Nayake Thero lay in state at Hurikaduwa Vidyasagara Pirivena for three days before the funeral took place with state honours where a gun salute was presented.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva took time off to arrive at the cremation site before the funeral procession wended its way to the site of the cremation and shared a few thoughts with the Secretary Defence who was also there at the same time. jordan release date | Nike Off-White
