Commander in Jaffna Invited to Open New Basketball Court

Mirusuvil-based 52 Division HQ of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) rolled a red carpet welcome to Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army when he turned up there this evening (17) to commission the new 52 Division Basketball Court at the invitation of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 52 Division, Major General S.S Waduge and the Jaffna Commander, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya.

After 15 (V) Gajaba Regiment troops greeted the visiting Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva to a drive-past Guard Turnout at the entrance, the 52 Division, GOC received the day’s VIP for opening of the basketball court. To leave memories, the day’s Chief Guest was then invited to unveil the plaque and formally declare it opened.

At the same time, the Commander was introduced to team players and referees who were set to play the first exhibition match in the new basketball court. Symbolizing the formal warming of the basketball court, the inaugural match continued for about 45 minutes in the presence of the day’s Chief Guest. Before his exit, the day’s Chief Guest was also invited to distribute awards to players who participated in the match.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva spoke to the troops present at the occasion and shared a couple of thoughts with them before he left the premises.
