Commander Invited to Deliver Guest Lecture at NDC

The National Defence College (NDC) at Colombo 3, the highest academic seat of learning for Tri-Services and Police in Sri Lanka invited Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army to deliver the customary ‘Commander’s Address’ today (6) to Student Officers who are following the National Security and Strategic Studies Course No 2 at NDC.

Themed on ‘Sri Lanka Army’s Concerns on National Security and Transformation to Meet New Challenges’, the comprehensive lecture encompassed the security challenges and concerns of the Sri Lanka Army both prevailing and looming threats, security concerns and diversified nature of threats, restructuring of Army, modernization, Army welfare and personnel management and gave the floor to Student Officers to interact with the speaker by way of queries and clarifications.

The National Security and Strategic Studies Course No 2 is followed by Officers from the Army (15), Navy (8) and Air Force (7) and Police (6).

Major General D.G.S Senarath Yapa (Rtd) RWP RSP ndu, Commandant of NDC warmly welcomed the Army Chief and Major General H.H.K.S.S Hewage RWP RSP USP psc, Secretary to NDC delivered the introductory speech of the day's lecturer to the audience at the NDC. Towards the end of the day’s lecture, the Commander expressed his best wishes to all Student Officers. The NDC Commandant afterwards awarded a memento to the Commander of the Army. The gesture was reciprocated. Prior to his departure, the Chief Guest left a few complimentary remarks in the NDC Visitors' Book.

National Defence College was established as the premier institute that promotes strategic thinking for the Senior Officers of the Tri-Services, Police and the public service to provide holistic knowledge intent on developing highly qualified strategic decision-makers in the realm of national security, statecraft, diplomacy, and public policy in order to ensure national security needs and national development of Sri Lanka.
