Commander Invited to Deliver Guest Lecture at NDC

The National Defence College (NDC) at Colombo 3, the highest academic seat of learning for Tri-services and Police in Sri Lanka invited Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army to deliver the customary 'Commander's lecture' today (10) to student officers who are following the National Security and Strategic Studies Course No1.

Themed on ‘Sri Lanka Army Concerns on National Security”, the comprehensive lecture encompassed the security challenges and concerns of the Sri Lanka Army since independence, both prevailing and looming threats, security concerns and diversified nature of threats, and gave the floor to Student Officers to interact with the speaker by way of queries and clarifications.

The National Security and Strategic Studies Course No 1 is followed by Officers from the Army (14), Navy (7) and Air Force (6) and Police (4).

Major General Amal Karunasekara, NDC Commandant warmly welcomed the Army Chief and Commodore W.M.A Bowaththa Senior Directing Staff conducted the introductory speech of day's lecturer to the audience at the NDC. Towards the end of the day’s lecture, the Commander expressed his best wishes to all Student Officers. The commandant NDC awarded a memento to the Commander of the Army which was reciprocated with a memento and a book pack. Prior to his departure, the Chief Guest left a few complimentary remarks in the NDC Visitors' Book.

National Defence College (NDC) was established as the premier institute that promotes strategic thinking for the senior officers of the tri-services, Police and the public service to provide holistic knowledge intent on developing highly qualified strategic decision-makers in the realm of national security, statecraft, diplomacy, and public policy in order to ensure national security needs and national development of Sri Lanka. The reading will aim at creating strategic thinkers, strategic analysts, decision-makers and strategic advisors. The institution will provide wise counsel to the Government in national and international security matters and also acts as a think-tank on matters pertaining to national security and holds a very important position in shaping the national security outlook of the country.
