Commander Inspects SLAC New Building Complex Receiving Final Touches

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army who is also the Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC)  on Wednesday (26) visited the SLAC Regimental Headquarters at Rock House, Muttuwal with the intention of inspecting the progress of the four-storeyed utility building complex under construction.

The new state of the art modern building complex that houses gymnasiums, accommodation, reading rooms, roof-top garden, administrative units, mess rooms, dining rooms, entertainment facilities, etc to be erected with SLAC fund is meant for both officers and other ranks.

The novel idea of having a utility SLAC building of this design was conceived by the Commander of the Army as a young officer in the SLAC Regimental Headquarters. However, no sooner than he was appointed the Army Chief about two years ago, he decided to make the idea a reality since the existing constructions could not permit any more extra facilities or administrative wings for SLAC officers and other ranks.

However, Lieutenant General Jayasuriya in less than a year of his assumption of office got all initial designing work and architectural requirements organized and ensured the construction project was properly on track, particularly in his capacity as the Colonel of the SLAC Regiment.

Commander during his inspection tour to the construction site exchanged views with the engineers and other workforce there and made inquiries into structures under progress and instructed them accordingly.

The new building complex, currently receiving final touches and is to be opened shortly will stand a living monument to both officers and other ranks.
