Commander Inspects Proposed Second Wellness Resort Site For Southern War Heroes

The second state of the art, ‘Abimansala’- type wellness resort for dependent Army War Heroes is to come up shortly at Wilpita, Kamburupitiya, thanks to the cooperation, extended by His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the Army in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army Monday (14) afternoon went to Wilpita and received the firsthand glimpses of the picturesque 10-acre extent of land where the new construction were to be a reality soon for the benefit of dependent war heroes, living in the Southern Province.

The visiting Commander was accompanied by Army engineers of the Engineer Service Regiment (ESR) and a few more officers who posses expertise and experience. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya together with those professionals had an initial discussion at the site itself after taking all geographical realities into consideration. He asked the Army Engineers to complete the construction within a matter of one year, paying special attention to access like how they did at Anuradhapura ‘Abimansala’. During the brief stay at the premises, the Commander further instructed them to build only single storey structures since adequate space is available in the premises.

The construction to be supported under the ‘Brave Hearts’ fund-raising project of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch, presided by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, is to house about 40 – 50 southern War Heroes who are dependent for the rest of their lives because of serious injuries, sustained in the LTTE terrorism.

The first ‘Abimansala’ was opened on 26 July 2011 at Anuradhapura where 52 more dependent War Heroes continue to receive special care and facilities.
