Commander Inaugurates Relic Exposition at Buddangala Monastery

Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army, joining a meritorious Poson programme at Ampara Buddangala Aaranya Senasanaya (monastery) as the Chief Guest this morning (9) inaugurated the exposition of sacred relics of the Buddha and his two disciples, Ven Sariputta and Ven Moggallana Theros as the main highlight of the Poson programme at the monastery.

Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva respectfully carried the replica containing relics from the Dagoba (pagoda) at the invitation of venerable monks, Ven Deegawapiye Suseema Thero and Ven Buddangala Ananda Thero and placed it in a casket for exposition to the devotees, amid Seth Pirith chanted by members of the Maha Sangha.

Around the same time, the Commander unveiled five new statues of Buddha’s five main disciples in the premises, which had been constructed by the troops.

The annual exposition of relics at this monastery draws many devotees on account of Poson every year and the inauguration of the exposition began on Poson Poya day (8) after Hon Speaker Karu Jayasuriya as the Chief Guest unveiled the casket, amid religious rituals.

Ven Deegawapiye Suseema Thero and Ven Buddangala Ananda Thero after extending a warm welcome to the Commander of the Army, explained the significance of the event as an annual feature.

Major General Mahinda Mudalige, General Officer Commanding, 24 Division and Major General Shantha Dissanayake, Commandant, Ampara Combat Training School (CTS) were among other visitors who were associated with the Commander’s visit to the sacred premises.
