Commander Greets New Record Makers in Silhouette Shooting on the Eve of Their Departure Abroad

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, highly impressed with the most recent five new Sri Lanka records of Army shooters, national champions who had a clean sweep in the National Shooting Tournament of the Open International Metallic Silhouette Shooting Union (IMSSU) Championship Meet invited them to his office on Thursday (10) and offered his hearty congratulations and best wishes.

This team of shooters, who have made the organization proud during the said Championship Meet, bagging all five places and making new Sri Lankan records with the overall National Championship, received the blessings and best wishes of the Commander on the eve of their departure to IMSSU World Champion Tournament in the Czech Republic.

Accompanied by Brigadier Senarath Niwunhella, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Small Arms Association, four of those best shooters, Major C.S Ratnayake of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (Team Captain), Warrant Officer II G.S.K De Silva of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, Staff Sergeant P.K.H.M Lasantha and Sergeant B.M Piyaratne who made National Records by securing overall Light and Silhouette categories in the tournament during July 3-6      at Katana, called over at the Commander’s office to receive his greetings, in the company of Colonel D.S.D Welikala, Team Manager and Coach.

Sri Lanka National Rifle Association was the organizer for the tournament at Katana, for which the Army produced a team of 23 male and woman shooters who had undergone training at the Sniper Trainig School at Diyatalawa under Open Silhouette categories to compete with shooters, drawn from many corners of the island.  

Lieutenant General Ratnayake, full of praise to their achievements shared a couple of views and pleasantries with them and inquired into their special needs as they were about to compete in an international Championship Tournament within next few days.    

The Commander, thanking the team for their exceptional firing skills and congratulating each and everyone separately, requested them to maintain the momentum and resolve to do better in the future.

At the National Championship Tournament, just ended in Katana, Sri Lanka Army shooters in a startling win scored 176 points and secured all five first places, qualifying to become new record makers in the field of shooting.

Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Chief of Staff, Brigadier G.J.A.W Galagamage, Director Army Sports and a few more officers were present.
