Commander Grants Funds for 71 Houses of Soldiers

The award of cash incentives to the soldiers for construction of new homes or completion of partly-built ones under the 8th phase of the Army Commander’s Ranaviru Housing Fund of the Directorate of Veterans Affairs took place today (29) at the Army Headquarters premises, headed by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army.

Under the 8th phase of the Ranaviru Housing Fund, the Commander of the Army has approved disbursement of funds for 31 new houses and completion of 40 partly-built houses. Accordingly, each beneficiary for a new house would get Rs 1.5 million and completion of a house is entitled to receive Rs 750,000/= under this scheme.

Brigadier M. Mayadunna RSP USP, Director, Directorate of Veterans Affairs welcomed the day’s Chief Guest on his arrival at the premises.

After an introductory briefing on the Ranaviru Housing Fund, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army, together with Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Chief of Staff distributed those cash cheques among the beneficiaries.

With the objective of fulfilling the dream of a new house of the soldiers, inclusive of those injured and still serving, retired ones, family members of fallen War Heroes, the Army Commander’s Ranaviru Fund was founded in 2015 under the Directorate of Veterans Affairs. Since the year 2015, funds have been provided for the construction of 264 new house and for completion of 71 partly-built houses.

Later, the second segment of the day’s event ‘Veterans Job Bank’ web portal on a conceptual notion of the Commander of the Army was launched by the Army Chief in order to provide better employment opportunities for retired Army personnel who would be prepared to offer their technical expertise in different professional and vocational fields.

The ‘Veterans Job Bank’ web portal was designed by the Directorate of Information Technology under the guidance of Major General H.M.L.D Herath RSP USP psc, Chief Signal Officer and Brigadier G.L.S.W Liyanage USP psc, Director, Directorate of Information Technology. It facilitates retired Army personnel to seek job opportunities that match with their qualifications. 13 island-wide companies have already registered with the new web portal.

Major General H.M.L.D Herath USP psc Chief Signal Officer, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Adjutant General, Major General J.A.R.S.K Jayasekara USP psc, Director General Electrical and Mechanical Engineering together with Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, beneficiaries and next of kin of soldiers participated in the event.
