The raising ceremony of the new 2 Signal Brigade of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) got underway on Friday (29 December) at Panagoda Army Cantonment, with the gracious presence of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest.
The 2 Signal Brigade has been mandated to plan, coordinate and supervise the effective conduct of Electronic Warfare (EW), Cyber and Artificial Intelligence (AI), Operations and assist Information Operations (IOs) conducted in support of combat and non-combat operations in the Army.
Commander of the Army was warmly welcomed by the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps, together with the Brigade Commander of the new 2 Signal Brigade on his arrival at the camp premises before the Commander of the Army laid a flower wreath at the SLSC War Heroes' Monument and paid his respect to the memory of fallen SLSC War Heroes.
Subsequently, the Commander of the Army, together with all distinguished guests moved to the conference hall at the Sri Lanka Signal Corps Regimental HQ for the raising proceeding of the 2 Signal Brigade.
Major General K.A.W.S Ratnayake ndu, Colonel Commandant, SLSC delivered the welcome note before Brigadier A.K.D Adikari USP Brigade Commander, 2 Signal Brigade conducted a comprehensive briefing about the newly-raised 2 Signal Brigade and its designated role during his briefing in relation to the establishment of the new Signal Brigade.
The Commander of the Army afterwards left memories by sitting for a group photograph, together with all officers.
Subsequently, SLSC troops conducted a demonstration on the functional aspects of different electronic warfare equipment which had been gifted as a Chinese grant.
The Army Commander was afterwards invited to leave memories by planting a sapling inside the camp premises to symbolize the day's significant event.
Next, the gathering had a close interaction session with the visiting Army Chief during refreshments. The SLSC Colonel Commandant afterwards presented mementos to the Commander of the Army in appreciation of his presence at the event. The gesture was reciprocated.
At the same occasion, the maiden copy of the SLSC Rugby History Book was also presented to the Commander of the Army.
Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the inauguration of the 2 Signal Brigade.
