Commander Fulfills His Promise to the SLE Regimental Headquarters

Honouring a verbal promise given during  his first visit to  the Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) Regimental Headquarters at Panagoda soon after assumption of office as the Army Chief, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army on Thursday (15) unveiled a plaque and inaugurated a multipurpose utility complex for other ranks inside the Regimental Headquarters premises.    

This new two-storied utility building complex, valued at Rs 50 m is comprised of other rankers' mess, corporals' recreation club, TV room and a kitchen, situated in an area of 8820 sq ft. It is 210 ft in length and 42 ft in width.    

The Commander of the Army after meeting officers of his mother regiment shared a couple of views with and inquired into their well-being and service commitments. Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva was warmly welcomed at the premises on arrival by Major General Channa Goonetilleke, Colonel Commandant, SLE. 

During his first visit to the SLE after assumption of duties as the Army Commander in February 2015, Lieutenant General De Silva assured SLE troops that he would equip the Regimental Headquarters with all possible facilities as early as possible since such needs were long-felt.   

A drive-past Guard Turnout at the entrance to the SLE premises greeted the Chief Guest in accordance with military formalities after Major General Channa Goonetilleke, Colonel Commandant welcomed the day's protagonist as melodies of patriotic songs began reverberating. A group of 'Kandyan Ves' dancers conducted the Chief Guest to the location in a ceremonial manner and invited him to open the new building.     

Amidst religious blessings, the Commander of the Army, together with Major General Goonetilleke unveiled a common plaque at the Regimental Headquarters premises and marked the ceremonial inauguration of the utility complex afterwards. 

An all rank tea party that followed culminated the day's itinerary.
