Commander flies to Jaffna

The commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shantha Kottegoda toured Jaffna today (20 May) on a brief official visit.

At the Palaly airport, Major General S.D Thennakoon, Commander Security Forces Head Quarters Jaffna and the Chief of Staff Sri Lanka Air Force Air vice Marshal J.L.C Salgadu received the Commander of the Army on his arrival.

Major General S.D Thennakoon, Commander Security Forces Head Quarters Jaffna after giving a warm welcome to touring Army Commander briefed him on the current security situation in the Peninsula.

The Commander of the Army, who was accompanied by Major General N Mallawarachchi Director General General Staff, Brigadier E.P de Z Abeysekara Signal Brigade Commander, Brigadier A.R Zacky Director Military Intelligence afterwards visited 51 and 52 Divisions.

Division Commanders briefed the Commander of the Army on security developments in the Peninsula.

After lunch, the Commander of the Army and his entourage met Commanders in 53 and 55 Divisions.

The Commander also inspected the newly repaired Forward Defence Line (FDL) at Nagar Kovil.

After his return from Jaffna, he is expected to visit Trincomalee on Saturday (21 May).
