Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army during a four-day (July 4 - 8) long formal visit to Brunei Darussalam to attend the ‘BRIDEX - 2011 Conference’ had a rare audience with the Sultan of Brunei, His Majesty Haji Hassanal Bolkiah from the sidelines of the main event.
Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonatilake and Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal H.D. Abeywickrama were also present at this Conference as delegates of the Sri Lankan team.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya upon arrival at Brunei Darussalam International Airport was warmly received by Deputy Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Forces Colonel Pengiran Zulkifli bin Pengiran, Chief of Staff Royal Brunei Land Forces Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Ghani, Head Inspectorate, Royal Brunei Land Forces Lieutenant Colonel Khairul Hamed and a few other senior officers.
Hours after the Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya’s arrival in Brunei, he paid a courtesy call on Brigadier General Haji Yusuf bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Commander Royal Brunei Land Forces, the 8th Commander Royal Brunei Land Forces who had extended the official invitation to Sri Lanka for the Conference.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya attending the sessions at BRIDEX - 2011 Conference that was held for two days (July 5 - 6) met a representative cross section of senior military officials serving Royal Brunei Land Forces and shared views with them, including matters related to Sri Lanka’s success story against terrorism.
During his stay there, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, along with other Sri Lankan delegates viewed a model demonstration of air and land operations, presented by Royal Brunei military personnel at Bridex Dome immediately after its inauguration, the same occasion amidst a large gathering of top military officers visiting the country in connection with the Conference.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya during his stay there interacted with trade delegates visiting the BRIDEX Exhibition and Complex, by which he was able to share views on several concerns and inquiries, made by them on Sri Lanka’s fast recovery process and road to development.
Towards the end of the itinerary, the visiting Sri Lankan Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya was taken on tour to visit several places of religious and cultural interest in the Kingdom of Brunei.
