Commander Evaluates ‘Vidyalankara Pirivena’ Construction Work & Offers More Assistance

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army on Sunday (30) went to Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena in order to explore possibilities of expediting the Army-undertaken completion of its ongoing new auditorium construction project at the request of its Parivenadhipathi, Ven Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayake Thero, Chief Sanghanayake for Colombo-Chilaw Region and Chancellor at University of Kelaniya.

Ven monk after extending a warm welcome to Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva explained him the status quo as regards its construction phase, being built to accommodate more and more learning monks. The Vidyalankara Pirivena, one of the most reputed seats of learning in the country for monks for generations is in the process of expanding its building complex giving a facelift and the Army Corps of Engineer Service (CES) is engaged in the erection of its delayed auditorium.

Most respected Ven Kusaladhamma Nayake Thera also invoked blessings on the visiting Army Chief by tying a blessed thread around Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva’s wrist after the Commander gave a patient hearing to the monk and inquired into his well-being. Afterwards, a few other senior monks accompanied Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva to the partly completed new construction site and showed him around emphasizing on the need for final touches and completion of remaining work.

On his way back inside the premises, Daham school students eagerly greeted the visiting Army Chief and Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva paused to exchange a few thoughts with them.

Vidyalankara Pirivena was founded in 1875 and subsequently it developed into one of the two leading monastic education centers in Sri Lanka. The zenith of its development as an education center was marked by its promotion into a full pledged university in 1959.latest Running | Air Jordan Sneakers
