Commander in the East Stimulates Troops Involved in Food Security Projects

As the second segment of the itinerary, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage during his visit to the East took time off to see the Army Farm at Galkanda and inspected the egg production process, being carried out under the supervision of the 3 (V) Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock (SLACAL).

The project expects to provide the entire egg requirement of the Army on a staggered basis as the production process spreads its wings to other Army-managed farms too in the future.

His next stop was at the Kandakadu Army Farm where multiple projects, inclusive of the combat ration pack production, dairy products, milk processing unit, and cattle farm, etc are managed by the same 3 (V) SLACAL troops.

As the final segment of the day’s programme, the Chief Guest stimulating the troops’ commitment to the country’s food security attended the special prize-giving ceremony for award of cash prizes for Best-managed Army Farms and Best Army personnel in the Agriculture Sector. Organized by the Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock, 21 Army farms vied in the 'Best Farm' competition for supremacy and following three were adjudged the best ones after a close competition.

Best Farm (2nd Place) - Army Farm - Manik Farm

Best Farm (3rd Place) - Army Farm - Galkanda

Best Emerging Farm - Army Farm - Kandakadu

Best Officer Commanding - Captain W.A.V.P Vijalath of the Army Farm at Galkanda

Best Senior Non-Commissioned Officer - Warrant Officer II R.M.M Buddika Kumara of the Army Farm at Adiya Puliyankulam
