The Association of Human Resource Professionals (HRP), the only professional network of practising HR professionals in Sri Lanka which has made a significant contribution to uplifting the standards of the HR profession, had Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army as the keynote speaker at the special panel discussion, held today (27) at the BMICH.
The Commander was invited to deliver his speech on ‘Role of a Corporate in a National Crisis’ under the theme ‘People Leaders’ Role in a National Crisis’.
Lieutenant General Senanayake, in his contribution to the session spoke at length about the current security scenario and its impact on the overall control of the upsurge of violence in the country in recent times and how different actors moved into the scene within a short period of time. He reminded that the Armed Forces with the support of the Police responded to the challenge in the shortest possible time and contained the spread of violence with quick arrests and searches.
Touching the role of HR managers in times of national crisis, the Commander pointed out that their responsibility is also more appealing as managers are the live-wires of the community of employees and could apply necessary measures as deemed suitable in a crisis context.
Similarly, he appraised the gathering how the leadership could be utilized using their past lessons in a crisis situation since HR professionals have a vital role to play in safeguarding the people, securing respective assets and maintaining the sanity in general. Lieutenant General Senanayake further highlighted the importance of managing HR in suitable and professional manners as they are the social leaders at the end of the day.
