Commander at Colombo Army Hospital Inquires Into Medical Condition of Injured Army Personnel During Wednesday Clash

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army showing his fatherly care towards soldiers who sustained serious injuries on Wednesday (13) after protesters near the Parliament complex brutally assaulted them visited the Colombo Army Hospital this afternoon (14), together with Major General Nishantha Manage, Director General General Staff and Brigadier Shantha Ranaweera, Director Operation.

The Army Chief, concerned about their injuries and the dedicated commitment for duties inquired into their well-being and treatment they are receiving. He also separately spoke to both soldiers who received critical head injuries and are lying at the ICU in the same hospital where he shared a few thoughts with medical authorities in the unit.

A dozen of Army soldiers sustained serious injuries on Wednesday (13) evening when a group of unruly protesters tried to place the Parliament complex under siege after breaking into the premises by force.

The Army Chief during interactions commended their duty roles and dedication to the responsibilities that have been entrusted to them at this critical moment of our country’s history as per directions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage. He also inquired into their requirements if any and assured them of all assistance.

Before his departure, he also did not forget to speak to the medical staff and requested them to provide those injured soldiers with best of the best treatment since they stood firm for the best interests of the people in the country.
