Commander Calls on Premier &;amp; President's Secretary

COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya this morning (03) paid two courtesy calls in conformity with military traditions after he took office as Commander of the Army.

The first visit was to the Secretary to the President, Lalith Weerathunga at the Presidential Secretariat. Mr. Lalith Weeratunge, himself a distinguished career administrator welcomed the visiting Army Chief on arrival at the Secretariat after offering him a warm handshake. Both of them exchanged matters of mutual interest and views on security concerns during the brief meeting.
 
President’s Secretary wished him strength and courage to carry out his duties as Commander of the Army before the Commander took leave of him.

A few hours later Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya called on the Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka at his office on Sir Ernest De Silva Mawatha, Colombo 7.
 
This was his first visit to the Prime Minister after he assumed duties at Army Headquarters. Prime Minister Wickramanayaka offered his congratulations on the Army Commander’s new appointment and wished him good luck with his future responsibilities.
 
To signify his interaction with the Premier, Lieutenant General Jayasuriya gifted a special memento to the Prime Minister towards the end of the meeting.
