Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, conducted an official visit to the Army Base Hospital in Colombo on 18 July 2024.
He was warmly welcomed at the main building lobby by Brigadier W.H.U.D. Wijeratne, Officiating Director General of the Army Health Services (DGAHS), together with Brigadier R.M.J.B. Ratnayake RSP, Director - Directorate of Management & Maintenance of the Army Hospital, Brigadier R.M.M. Monaragala USP, Director of the Army Hospital - Colombo and other Senior Officers.
During his visit, the Army Chief toured the hospital premises, inspecting various sections including wards 05, 08, 09, 15, 16, 17, 18, and the dispensary. He also inspected the accommodation area designated for Other Ranks and Warrant Officers’ and the Sergeants’ Mess. Additionally, the Army Chief reviewed facilities such as Other Ranks' kitchen area, motor transport section, and patients' ration stores, ensuring their proper functioning to provide optimum service for patients. The Army Commander also inspected the 15-storied building under construction, which is intended to extend facilities for the hospital and the bio-medical workshop.
Following his tour, the Army Chief addressed All Ranks at the Army Hospital - Colombo. Subsequently, he was presented with a special memento as a token of appreciation by the Director of the Army Hospital - Colombo, and the gesture was reciprocated. The visit concluded with a group photograph and the Army Chief participating in a tea arrangement for All Ranks, followed by signing the visitors' book.
