Commander of the Army Participates in Coordinating Conference for Deegawapiya Pagoda's Enshrinement Ceremony

The coordinating conference for the upcoming enshrinement ceremony for treasure and omniscient relics at Deegawapiya Pagoda was held on 24 June 2024 to discuss the various aspects of this occasion.

General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, delivered the welcome speech at the outset of the conference. He outlined the primary objectives of the ceremony and set the tone for the discussions that followed.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Commander of the Air Force, Government Officials, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the occasion.

During the conference, several significant matters were deliberated to ensure the successful execution of the ceremony. These included opening the Dhathu Mandiraya and Vihara Mandiraya to house the revered treasures, establishment of a devotees' accommodation hall and an alms-giving hall for the convenience of attendees, provision of electricity and necessary infrastructure facilities to accommodate the devotees, administrative arrangements to streamline the event's proceedings and ensuring security measures for both invitees and devotees.

At the conclusion, detailed plans were laid out regarding the procession of omniscient relics to the pagoda. Additionally, arrangements were made to provide food for devotees through the establishment of a dansal.
