Commander of the Army Graces the Donation Programme at Vijaya Vidyalaya, Matale

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, a distinguished alumnus of Vijaya Vidyalaya, graced the donation programme held at Vijaya Vidyalaya, Matale on 10 February 2024, as the Chief Guest along with Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, the President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU). The donation programme was sponsored by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit to support the education of students at Vijaya Vidyalaya, Matale.

Upon arrival, the Commander of the Army was warmly welcomed by the students of Vijaya Vidyalaya. The event commenced with the lighting of an oil lamp and a two-minute silence to commemorate fallen war heroes.

The Commander of the Army, the President, ASVU and Commander, Security Force – Central distributed 100 packs of school supplies among the students during the donation programme. Those school supplies were sponsored by the ASVU. Moreover, financial scholarships were also awarded to 12 students studying at the school with the sponsorship provided by Old Pupils' Association. Afterwards, the Commander of the Army donated a set of sports items to the school for the enhancement of its sports activities.

Following the conclusion of the donation programme, the Principal of Vijaya Vidyalaya, Matale presented special mementoes to the Commander of the Army and the President of ASVU to express sincere gratitude for their dedicated efforts in supporting school’s educational endeavours. The gesture was reciprocated. Afterwards, the Commander posed for group photographs with the participants.

Thereafter, the Commander of the Army inaugurated four classrooms, which was renovated by the troops of the 17 Engineer Services Regiment and financial assistance was given by the Old Pupils’ Association of Vijaya Vidyalaya, Matale and a group of philanthropists. At the end of the day's agenda, students were offered a delicious lunch, which was organized by the ASVU.
