Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army along with Mrs. Janaki Liyanage - the President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), attended the opening ceremony of the ‘Sanda Hiru Seya Poson Zone,’ organised by the Ministry of Defence and Tri-Forces, in the morning of 21 June 2024 at Sanda Hiru Seya, Anuradhapura.
The event was graced by General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, as the chief guest. The event commenced with a ceremonial procession of the Sacred Relic Casket of Lord Buddha around the Sanda Hiru Seya stupa, which is destined for the Deegavapiya stupa. Following the segment, the chief guest placed the Sacred Relic Casket of Lord Buddha in the shrine room for public veneration.
Subsequently, all distinguished guests offered flowers at the main Buddha Statue located at the eastern entrance gate. This was followed by a ceremonial shabdha pooja event. Then after, the chief guest donated a Blood Dialysis Machine to the Tabuththegama hospital.
The special oration (Anusasana) by the Maha Sangha then commenced at the spiritual site invoking the blessings for all. The event concluded with the opening of a dansala (free giveaway) organised by the Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni, attended by distinguished guests.
The clergy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera RSP USP ndu psc, Commander of the Navy, senior Tri-Forces Officers, Government Agents, and devotees from the local area participated in the event.
