Commander Appreciates International Achievers in the Army

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army invited the Army Special Forces (SF) team that won a Bronze medal in the British Army’s international ‘Exercise Cambrian Patrol’ to his office at the Army Headquarters this morning (28) and extolled their achievement.

Three Officers and seven Other Ranks of the SF competing in this world-class competition, held covering rugged Cambrian mountains and swamp lands of Mid Wales during 2-18 October won a Bronze medal for participation in this tough Exercise.

The Sri Lankan team, led by Major Janaka Rathnayake had to undergo training for the Exercise despite chilly weather patterns before the Exercise proper commenced on Tuesday (15).

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army during this morning’s cordial meet with those international achievers inquired into their experience in participation in the ‘Exercise Cambrian Patrol’ and commended them for their achievement among many other participants in the event.

The team also in turn expressed their appreciation for the Commander’s invitation and thanked him for the occasion. Lieutenant General Silva awarded appreciative mementos to each of them as intensives at the occasion.

Major R.M.J Ratnayake, Captain E.S.V.N Jayasinghe, Lieutenant K.A.W.S Kalubowilage, Sergeant N.W.G.K.W Dissanayake, Sergeant D.M.D.S Dissanayake, Corporal H.P Chaminda Kumara, Corporal K.G.A.P Maduranga, Lance Corporal I.M.N.P Jayasekara and Lance Corporal B.D.S Madusanka of the SF took part in the expedition in Britain.

Colonel Chandimal Peris, Brigade Commander, SF and Colonel Nishshanka Eeriyagama, Centre Commandant, SF were present during the interaction with the Commander of the Army.

Meanwhile, Corporal N.G.S Bandara of Sri Lanka Light Infantry who won a Gold medal at the 3rd Asian Para Archery Games in Bangkok was also invited to the Commander’s office around the same time.

Lieutenant General Silva spoke high of his contribution and the subsequent achievement in the tournament and appreciated him by awarding a special memento to the achiever.

The 3rd Asian Para Archery Games selected Corporal Bandara for participation in the forthcoming 2020 Para Olympic Games considering his achievement in the Bangkok tournament.
