Commander among Invitees to Bangladesh National Day

A gathering of diplomats and defence advisers of Sri Lanka-based embassies on Saturday (26) added value to the 51st Anniversary of the Independence Day and National Day of Bangladesh during a commemorative function, held at Hotel Galle Face.

General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army was among one of the distinguished invitees to the occasion at the invitation of the High Commissioner of Bangladesh.

The armed forces of Bangladesh as one of the most co-operative regional security wings have extended their best of co-operation to their counterparts in the Sri Lankan armed forces in the past few years in terms of joint-military exercises, exchange programmes, allocation of more and more training modules in NDC, psc courses, leadership programmes, Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare (CIJW) programmes, weapon training, parachute courses, Advanced Physical Training (APT) and other related degrees for Army, Navy and Air Force, personnel, etc showing their true spirits of camaraderie and understanding.

General Shavendra Silva’s presence at the invitation of Bangladesh High Commissioner at this memorable anniversary meet further cemented prevailing bonds of goodwill and working relations that have nurtured between both armed forced forces of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and symbolized the degree of importance Sri Lankan Armed Forces attach to Bangladesh’s national interests and her people.

High Commissioner of Bangladesh, His Excellency Tareq Md Ariful Islam and his spouse welcomed the guests at Hotel Galle Face and interacted with the invitees.

Ambassadors, Diplomats, Defence Advisers of several High Commissions joined the commemorative occasion.
