Commander Accepts New Innovations of CDRD from Secretary Defence

The Centre for Defence Research and Development (CDRD) institute under the State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management making great strides in the search for new innovations for development of both military and civilian technologies on Monday (8) handed over successfully completed 15 of their projects to the Ministry of Defence, tri-services and the Wildlife Conservation Department during a brief ceremony at the CDRD HQ at Panagoda.

At the invitation of Major General K.R.P Rowel (Rtd), Director General, CDRD, the Secretary Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, Chiefs of Staff of the Navy and Air Force were at the location to symbolically receive those military-related innovative products, comprised of the Drone Jammer Development project, Land Acquisition and Vesting Information Management System, Food Procurement Management System, Document Management System, MoU Management System, production of Digital Mobile Radio, Tracking Device for Special Operations (prototype), Smart Target System for Jungle Lane Firing, BTR Simulator, Mortar Simulator, B-vehicle simulator and the High-Tech Soldier Project.

A unique and exclusively-produced Electronic Prosthetic Limb that can be used by handicapped War Heroes, a Hand-held Device to repel wild elephants that can be used by the Department of Wildlife Conservation, and a special officers’ database for National Cadet Corps were among other innovated products that were released for use at the occasion.

General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) as the Chief Guest upon receipt of separate briefings from project officers of respective wings at first, received the products of 5 projects, meant for the Ministry of Defence from Major General K.R.P Rowel (Rtd), Director General, CDRD. They included Drone Jammer Development project, Land Acquisition and Vesting Information Management System, Food Procurement Management System, Document Management System, MoU Management System. Related patent certificates to the day’s Chief Guest were also handed over at the same location.

Afterwards, General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) was invited to distribute completed projects of the tri-services, Department of Wildlife Conservation and to other end-users.

Accordingly, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army was symbolically awarded the innovated Digital Mobile Radio, Tracking Device for Special Operations (prototype), Smart Target System for Jungle Lane Firing, BTR Simulator, Mortar Simulator, B-vehicle simulator and the High-Tech Soldier Project on the same occasion by the day’s Chief Guest.

Similarly, Chiefs of Staff of the Navy and Air Force who represented respective Commanders were invited to accept 10 units of Digital Mobile Radios each from the Secretary Defence. At the same occasion, the War Hero, Private D.W.M.K Fernando under rehabilitation at the ‘Ranaviru Sevana’ was gifted with the exclusive first Electronic Prosthetic Limb for his use, for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka.

In addition, Mr M.S.L.R.P Marasinghe, Director Operations, Department of Wildlife Conservation and Major General P.W.B Jayasundara (Rtd), Director, National Cadet Corps received the Hand-held Device to repel wild elephants and the special officers’ database for the National Cadet Corps respectively.

Towards the end of the brief handover ceremony, invitees closely had a look at respective wings in the CDRD and received a thorough briefing on the role and tasks of each unit.
