Major General P.G.P.S Rathnayaka RWP RSP ndc, Commander 1 Corps, made his first official visit to the 58 Infantry Division, 583 Infantry Brigade, and the 1st Battalion, the Gajaba Regiment (GR) on 22 July 2024.
Upon his arrival, troops of the 58 Infantry Division presented a Guard Turnout followed by warm welcome by Senior Officers of the Division. Afterwards, staff Officers provided a comprehensive briefing on the division’s functions. The visit included the planting of a sapling, a welcome speech by the Deputy GOC, and an address by the Commander, 1 Corps, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace, security, and high standards through training and discipline. A group photograph and complimentary notes in the visitors’ book concluded the first part of the visit.
The Commander then visited the 583 Infantry Brigade, where he was welcomed in a Drive Pass at the entrance. Briefings were conducted by the Commander of the Brigade and the Commanding Officer of 1 GR, followed by the planting of a sapling, group photographs, and an All Ranks tea session. Visiting Commander then addressed the troops and instructed the Commander of the Brigade and Commanding Officer to ensure the wellbeing of the soldiers. He also inspected the readiness of the Riot Control Platoons and their equipment.
