Colonel M.B.B.N Herath RSP Discusses Climate Security at Dhaka Conference

Colonel M.B.B.N Herath RSP, Director General and Acting Director (Research) at the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS), delivered a presentation at the "Droughts, Floods, and Fault Lines: Climate Security in South Asia" conference held in Dhaka from 24 to 25 February 2025. The event, organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS), brought together experts from six South Asian nations to address climate change and regional security.

Colonel M.B.B.N Herath RSP’s presentation, titled "Powering Peace: Renewable Energy for Climate Security in South Asia," focused on financial strategies to combat climate change, including blended finance models, climate bonds, and public-private partnerships. He also discussed the potential for cross-border renewable energy networks and a South Asia Power Pool to enhance regional energy integration, while acknowledging the challenges of financial, technical, and political barriers.

Prominent speakers, including Air Vice Marshal Mahmud Hussain, Dr. Salma Malik, and Major General Binaj Basnyat, also contributed to the conference, addressing various aspects of climate security in South Asia.
