College of Military Medicine Inducts its New President

Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) on Friday (4) inducted Brigadier Crishantha Fernando as the new President of the SLCOMM during a ceremony at Shangri La Hotel, graced by a distinguished gathering of medical experts of fame.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army attended the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the SLCOMM while Prof Kemal Deen Former Senior Professor & Chairman of Surgery, University of Kelaniya was the Guest of Honour. Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps a few years ago took the initiative in founding this first-ever scientific forum, SLCOMM which exclusively focuses on development of the field of military medicine in the country and the region as an essential sphere.

The induction ceremony got to a start after the new President-elect and the day's Chief Guest were conducted to the hall in a procession. Singing of the national anthem, lighting of the traditional oil lamp and observance of one-minute silence to honour all fallen ones followed the welcome address by incumbent President Rear Admiral Senarupa Jayawardena. Next made the stage ready for induction formalities of the new President, Brigadier Crishantha Fernando in accordance with hallowed practices.

The day's Guest of Honour, Prof Kemal Deen was then invited to deliver his address then to the gathering. Afterwards, the day's proceedings reached its climax with the Chief Guest's speech to the occasion, in which he appreciated the efforts that have been made by the SLCOMM for promotion of military medicine since its inception and its diversified applications.

The day's itinerary ended with the remarks made by the new President, in which he thanked the College and the day's distinguished guests. Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Secretary to Ministry of Health, Senior state officials, retired senior tri service military officers, officials of the Ministry of Health, Medical Officers, Dentists of tri services and other invitees were among attendees for the day's induction ceremony.
