The inaugural Military Engineering and Technology Conference, organized by the College of Military Engineering and Technology in Sri Lanka (CMETSL), got underway on 16 February 2024, at the Wave n’ Lake Navy Hall in Welisara. General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, graced the event as the chief guest.
Commencing the day’s proceedings, a traditional oil lamp was lit and the gathering observed a two-minute silence as a tribute to the fallen War Heroes. Setting the outset, Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarna, the Chief Executive Officer of WSO2, delivered the keynote speech, followed by the address of the chief guest.
Moments later, the e-Journal of CMETSL was officially launched, together with the journal's website. Afterwards, the distinguished gathering posed for a few group photographs after awarding honorary memberships to its senior members. During the conference, three sessions were conducted with valuable educative topics in relation to military engineering and technology.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Commanders of the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force, Chief of Staff of the Army, Senior Officers, Officers, engineers and scholars also witnessed the inaugural conference.
