EAST: TROOPS ON CONTINUING SEARCH OPERATIONS have found several warlike items left behind by Tiger terrorists in the general areas of TRINCOMALEE and BATTICALOA Sunday (3).
Troops, following information received from a civilian, recovered three 12.7 Heavy Machine Gun (HMG) ammunition drums, three 12.7 HMG link belts, one hundred and eighty rounds of ammunition from PANICHCHANKERNI in BATTICALOA Sunday (3) at about 4.45 p.m.
Another civilian information led troops to recovery of six hundred and seventy one Anti Personal Mines, twenty claymore mines, seventeen mortar para bombs, seventy six mortar fuses and one anti tank mine from VERUGAL in BATTICALOA Sunday (3) around 5.00 p.m.
The same day around 12.15 p.m., troops on route clearing at PANKUNAWELI in BATTICALOA found two claymore mines, 2 kg of C-4 explosives, one anti tank mine, sixty-nine rounds of ammunition and fourteen Anti Personal Mines.
An Army foot patrol at KILIWEDDI in TRINCOMALEE recovered one T-56 weapon, one T-81 weapon, two T-56 magazines, four T-81 magazines, fifty one rounds of ammunition, three hand grenades, one belt order and one field dressing from an abandoned cadjan hut Sunday (3) at about 10.40 a.m.
Meanwhile, one excavator abandoned in the general area of MAWADICHENA was also found by troops on Saturday (2) at about 11.45 a.m..
