Church Hierarchy Commends CES Contribution to Church Renovation

His Eminence Cardinal (Dr) Malcolm Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo on Tuesday (23) evening re-consecrated the renovated Wadduwa Holy Spirit Church, damaged due to a flash of lightning in May 2020.

4 Corps of Engineer Services (CES) troops of the Security Force HQ - West on the directions given by Brigadier K.M.S Kumara, the Director Engineer Services and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineer Services supported the renovation of the Church at the request of church authorities.

General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army after the request to this effect was received gave his blessings and directed the troops to continue with the project.

CES troops completed the construction with raw materials, made available to them by church authorities with the support of devotees and other donors as per guidelines given by the priests and architects.

The re-opening ceremony, graced by His Eminence and a gathering of priests and devotees saw unveiling of a plaque which mentioned the contribution made by CES troops. During his brief addressed to the occasion, the Bishop commended the Army for its support to the project and gave away appreciative mementos to the troops who carried out the task.

Similarly, Rev Gayan Prashantha of the Wadduwa Diocese in his brief address to the occasion said that the service done by Army troops for this project is in valuable and deserves the respect and appreciation of the entire Christian community.
