CONTINUING their humanitarian missions in Jaffna, troops of the 10 (Volunteer) Gemunu Watch serving under Nagar Kovil-based 521 Brigade recently organized a tree -planting campaign at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Pothpathy, Jaffna.
Before planting saplings in the premises, troops conducted a Shramadana and cleaned the surroundings of the church with the assistance of about thirty residents in the area.
Three Officers and forty Other Ranks took part in the campaign and 10 (V) Gemunu Watch troops have organized tea and refreshments for all those who participated in the event.
In the meantime, one Officer and fifteen Other Ranks of the 3 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment attended a Shramadana campaign to clean the main road from Katkolam to Pillapai which remained polluted for some time. Around sixty civilians joined the soldiers for this worthy cause. All civilians were offered tea at the end of this five-hour long Shramadana campaign conducted on 9th September 2009.
