THE FIRST Christmas dawn after the new breath of freedom in the Northern and Eastern Provinces was celebrated by the people living in those areas as well as the Security Forces personnel serving there.
One such Christmas celebration was the Christmas carol organized by the troops of the 233 Brigade with the participation of people in Vakarai area for the Christmas season.
The Christmas carol was conducted at Vakarai Maha Vidyalaya on 20th December 2009 evening headed by the Commander 23 Division Brigadier Bonifes Perera with the participation of Christian fathers in the area. Army dancing troops and Army band also contributed to the event.
About 900 Christians in the area were present on the occasion. Distribution of gifts among school children in the area also took place at the same time.
In the meantime, the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ - J) also organized a special prayer session and Christmas carols to celebrate the dawn of Christmas on 20th December 2009 at SFHQ Indoor Stadium. This helped the Christian Officers and the Other Ranks serving in Jaffna to celebrate Christmas.
The event headed by the Commander Security Forces, Jaffna Major General L.B.R Mark was attended by a large number of Christian fathers who came from Colombo. The day’s proceedings were conducted in Tamil by the Chief Priest in Jaffna and in Sinhala by Father Gihan.
Tamil school children who sang Christmas carols were given gifts by the Jaffna Commander. Refreshments were also served at the end of the ceremony.
