Chief of Staff & Senior Officers Join ‘Ifthar’ Tradition with Muslim Members in the Army

Muslim members of the Sri Lanka Army this evening (13) performed the traditional breaking of Ramadan fast, ‘Ifthar’, together with the Chief of Staff of the Army Major General Mahesh Senanayake at Holiday Resort, Wadduwa who took part in the ritual on behalf of the Commander of the Army.

The customary fast-breaking ritual among Muslim members of the Army took place following an initiative taken by the Muslims Association of the Army, presided by Brigadier M.H.F Yusuf.

Major General Mahesh Senanayake, Chief of Staff as the Chief Guest for the occasion, together with Major General Renaka Udawatte, Deputy Chief of Staff and his spouse, Major General Shavendra Silva, Adjutant General and Senior Officers partook of the first meal and sat together with all Muslim Officers for the ritual as dusk fell.

‘Ifthar’ tradition has taken root in the Army to suit the wishes of the Commander who wants all religious and cultural identities be accommodated and equally respected in the organization.
