Chief of Staff Pays Respects at Sri Dalada Maligawa and Inspects Kandy Army Base Hospital, Kandy

Major General W.H.K.S. Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, the Chief of Staff, made a visit to the ‘Sri Dalada Maligawa’ in Kandy on 20 March 2024. This visit marked a significant event following his assumption of duties as the Chief of Staff.

Upon his arrival, the Chief of Staff was warmly welcomed by the Chief Custodian of Sri Dalada Maligawa, Pradeep Nilanga Dela. Then, the Chief Custodian ushered the Senior Officer through the lower and upper chambers of the sacred place, where offerings were made in accordance with customs. The exchange of mementos between the Chief of Staff and the Chief Custodian was then took place at the location.

Following the rituals at Sri Dalada Maligawa, the Senior Officer called on both Maha Nayake Theros (Prelates) of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters, Most Venerable Tibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thero and Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayake Thero, adhering to age-old traditions that hold deep significance in Sri Lankan culture.

Afterwards, the Chief of Staff proceeded to inspect the present functions, administration and logistics requirements of the Army Base Hospital in Kandy before the ceremonial opening to be conducted in near future. Brigadier W.W.M.P.W.W.B.R. Palamakumbura RWP RSP, the Director of Management and Maintenance and the Commanding Officer of the Army Base Hospital, Kandy, warmly welcomed the Chief of Staff upon his arrival at the hospital premises with the presence of Director General Army Health Services, the General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division and many other Senior Officers.

Soon after, a comprehensive briefing on the present functions, administration and logistics requirements of the Army Base Hospital, Kandy was conducted by the Director Management and Maintenance of Army Base Hospital, Kandy, and the Commanding Officer of Army Base Hospital, Kandy.

The event concluded with the inspection of wards, theaters, dental, kitchen and accommodation area of Other Ranks and around the camp premises.
