Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathilaka with a view to receiving an update on Wanni security arrangements in place made a trip down to Vavuniya on Monday (19).
Major General A.K.S Perera, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni received the visiting Chief of Defence Staff on arrival at the Wanni Security Forces Headquarters premises.
A discussion that ensued with the participation of Commander, Security Forces- Wanni, Commander, North Central Province, General Officers Commanding in all Divisions, Brigade Commanders and senior Police Officers covered a wide range of matters that are directly related to further improvement of living standards, common amenities and essential services of newly resettled people, ongoing de-mining work and return of civilians, contribution of the armed forces for construction of dwellings, restoration of infrastructure facilities, etc.
The Chief of Defence Staff expressed his gratitude to the armed forces and the Police for their respective roles and wanted all of them work harder to expedite ongoing development work and other projects in the Wanni as normalcy has already been restored, giving a new lease of life to the civilians.
Before his departure, the Chief of Defence Staff planted a mango sapling at the Security Forces Headquarters premises as a token of memory of his visit to the Wanni.
