Chess Players at SFHQ-J Undergo Training

A five-day long chess training workshop for Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) got underway on a suggestion, made by Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commander, SF-J during 7 - 11 March.

This chess training programme was initiated at the Security Force HQ Jaffna, under the close supervision of Major General Swarna Bothota, Chairman, Army Chess Committee. 22 soldiers attended this workshop and received training.

At the end of the 5-day long training session a Chess competition was conducted among the students. Private G.R Viduranga of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Regiment won the 1st in order of merits while Private R.M.T.S Rathnayake of the 12 Gamunu Watch and Private G.G.M.T Gimhana of the 3th Sri Lanka Signals Corps respectively won the 2nd and 3rd places.

The closing address was made by Brigadier Sashika Perera, Brigadier General Staff of SFHQ-J who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Winners were awarded certificates and trophies. Staff Officers of the Security Forces Jaffna, Officers and Senior Non Commission Officers of the Security Forces Jaffna also attended the closing ceremony.
