CH &; FC gives tough resistance to win over soldiers

If luck and fortune has something to do with sports, it was there in the first match of the second round Caltex Rugby tournament played between Army and CH & FC ruggerites on Sunday 27 at Colombo CH grounds. Dashing all hopes, Army Rugby team had to suffer an unexpected defeat in the encounter.

At the end of the first half, Soldiers were seen dominant in the game one point ahead of CH's 10. Corporal Lankathilaka started scoring for the team in his first try. Ten points scored by CH ruggerites' in two tries were readily responded to by Army players with 6 more in two penalties leaving no room for CH to edge win.

Soldiers led by Sergeant Karunarathne maintained the scoreboard but winners stuck to 18-17 in the second half. The last two minutes of the match changed the fate of soldiers although Sergeant Silva still contributed with one more try to Army's total 18. But CH ruggerites recorded win after adding 7 in one goal with no time for solders to counter.
