CDS &;amp; Army Commander Visit Jaffna

CHIEF of Defence Staff (CDS) General Sarath Fonseka together with Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and a few senior officers from Army Headquarters flew to Jaffna on Saturday (15) for a visit.

CDS and Army Commander arrived in Palaly in the morning and were received by Commander Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) Major General G.P.R. de Silva.

On arrival, troops of 11th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment accorded a Guard of Honour to the CDS who was on his first visit to Jaffna after assuming the office of CDS.

During the subsequent meeting, Security Forces Commander, Jaffna submitted a detailed account on the security situation in the peninsula and troop commitment in different areas in Jaffna to assist government’s development programme in north under “Uthuru Wasanthaya”.

General Officers Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Divisions and Commander Task Force 7 briefed the visitors on  the contribution of their troops in the northern development programme whilst ensuring security in respective areas. 

Commander Northern Naval Command Rear Admiral J. Kolambage, Commander Palaly Air Force Base Group Captain H.N. Abeysinghe and Senior Superintendent of Police Kankesanthurai M.Perera were also present at the meeting.

To mark his visit, General Sarath Fonseka signed the Visitors’ Book before leaving SFHQ-J.
