CDF Sets an Exemplary Record &;amp; Buys Tractors From its Own Profit Money

Civil Defence Force (CDF), the auxiliary wing that provided maximum support behind the screen to the tri-services and the Police during battles against terrorists, created a novel feature for the first time in its history by buying new tractors to the CDF, using its own hard-earned money from agricultural cultivations.

Twenty-six new tractors, bought from the profits the CDF accumulated in the past one year through its paddy cultivations, brick production and animal husbandry in Maha Oya, Ampara, Uhana and Weli Oya areas were thus distributed as stimulants among seventeen CDF provincial units during a simple ceremony, held at Galle Face greens Thursday (11) morning.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya gracing the ceremony as Chief Guest presented tractor keys symbolically to those representative provincial CDF heads at the invitation of Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris, Director General CDF after a brief welcome address.

The CDF personnel serving Maha Oya, Ampara, Uhana and Weli Oya areas after successful completion of the recent Humanitarian Operations actively took to cultivations, livestock,  animal husbandry and production of building materials in those areas with the blessings of the Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and succeeded in securing a record profit of Rs 74 million within a span of just one year. It was part of this money that was used to purchase those new 26 tractors for further promotion of the CDF’s ongoing agricultural projects at provincial levels.

The move, unprecedented and perhaps the first-ever exemplary gesture of this type in the history of the CDF, won plaudits from the Commander of the Army who was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Senior CDF officers, Defence Ministry officials, representative and junior and other CDF officers and personnel were present at the occasion.
