In response to a compelling request from the Airport and Aviation Service of Sri Lanka, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu instructed the Chief Field Engineer, to provide an introductory training session of the 14 Chemical Biological Radiology and Nuclear Engineers (CBRNE) Response Regiment.
The primary objective of this training was to educate Aviation Officials, currently engaged in the Aviation Security Course.
A total of 145 trainees on Saturday (4 November) gathered at the 14 CBRNE Response Regiment premises in Mattegoda. The curriculum was comprehensive, delving into the fundamentals of security, the basics of explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and the critical knowledge of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) threats and their composition in relation to the airport security.
The highlight of the training was the unique opportunity provided to the trainees where they were also given hands-on experience with samples of explosives and a dummy IED. In addition, trainees had the privilege of inspecting the cutting-edge Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and CBRN equipment used by the 14 CBRNE Response Regiment, providing a firsthand look at the tools and technology employed to ensure safety.
The sessions were expertly guided by the Chief Field Engineer, Major General Maj General SA Kulatunge RWP RSP VSV USP psc. The close supervision of the Colonel General Staff (Overlooking) of the Engineer Division and the Commanding Officer of the 14 CBRNE Response Regiment enabled the attendees receive a comprehensive knowledge on CBRN equipment.
