Canadian High Commissioner for Sri Lanka Ms.Valerie Raymond, accompanied by several senior Canadian military personnel toured the Jaffna peninsula recently in an attempt to evaluate the ongoing de-mining process in the north, and also to learn more about developments in the aftermath of the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed between the government and LTTE.
On arrival at Palaly airport, the Canadian delegation was received by Security Forces Commander Jaffna, Major General G. S. C Fonseka RWP RSP rcds psc, who briefed the visiting delegation about unfolding developments in the peninsula before they commenced their inspection and fact-finding tour.
Ms.Raymond who also spoke to a cross section of officials engaged in de-mining programmes has assured her government's further assistance towards achieving this goal of complete de-mining.
