Buddhist Monk Sponsored & Army-Built New Home Gifted to Vavuniya Family

Giving further teeth to the Army HQ's concept of community development programmes, the Commander, Security Forces- Wanni Major General Chamapaka Ranasinghe on Wednesday (1) handed over the keys to the beneficiaries of a new Army-erected house in the general area of Sasthreekulam, Vavuniya, thanks to the sponsorship of the buddhist monk, Ven Ududumbara Sobitha Thero of the International Vipassana Meditation Center in Colombo.

The new house, constructed by 15 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops of the 562 Brigade of the 56 Division under the Security Force HQ-Wanni was warmed after unveiling a plaque amid religious rites as the recipient, Mr Govinda Shantha Vadiwel with his family members joined the symbolic ribbon-cutting before entering into the new house. This project was coordinated by the Commander 562 Brigade Brigadier A. M. S Premawansa under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 56 Division and the supervision of the Commanding Officer of the 15 (V) SLSR battalion. Several household items were also gifted to the recipient on the same occasion as incentives since the family is undergoing economic hardships to sustain their livelihood.

Ven Lakshegama Vimalarathane Thero, Mr Michael Coordinating Officer, RR Construction, Mr Maurathan, Director Safety Credits Ltd, Vavuniya, Development Officer, Samuddhi Officers of Sasthreekulam area, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division Major General Laksiri Perera, Commander 562 Bridge Brigadier A M S Premawansa, Commanding Officer 15 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Major R M J B Rajapakshe SLSR, Senior Officer/Officers and Other Ranks participated in this brief ceremony, adhering to health protocols.
