Brigadier Sisira Pilapitiya, the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 55 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) assumed office at the 55 Division Headquarters, Kaddaikadu, Jaffna on Thursday (30 ) during a brief ceremony of religious and military formalities.
A formal Guard Turnout greeted the new GOC at the entrance to the Headquarters before he was invited to review the Guard of Honour, presented in his honour at the parade ground. From the special dais, Brigadier Pilapitiya afterwards took the salute and added memories to the occasion by planting a sandalwood sapling in the premises.
Minutes later, amid religious blessings on the new appointment, the new GOC at his new office left his signature for a formal document to signify the acceptance of the new appointment and received greetings and best wishes.
Setting out his vision for the growth of the 55 Division, Brigadier Sisira Pilapitiya then addressed all ranks and urged them to fulfill their duties to the best of their ability with a view to promoting durable peace and reconciliation in the country. He also appealed them to promote cordial relations with the civil community members outside and underlined the need to take continuous health precautions.
An all rank tea arrangement in the premises afterwards enabled the new GOC to share a couple of views with the attendees and inquire into their well-being and other related concerns.
Brigadier Sisira Pilapitiya who is also the Colonel of the Regiment in the Vijayabhahu Infantry Regiment was the Director, Personnel Administration at the Army HQ, prior to this appointment. He succeeded Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda who was appointed the Commander, SF, Kilinochchi.
